"Bluegrass Pickers" by Phyllis Gooche
This is a painting I did which represents by dad (who passed away in 2005)
He was a bluegrass musician who could play practically any instrument. He was a champian harmonica player and was also very talented at hand carving his own
instruments; including violins, mandolins, and a bass fiddle. The painting below
is how I remember him best, bluegrass picking with his musician friends.

Today's Work in Progress
I hope to post on this blog not only our finished works and artwork on exhibit, but also to
show some of our works in progress. Here is a painting I have been working on this week.
I am working on a series of paintings that I like to refer to as my "BFF's"...or Best Friends
Forever. I did a painting (now on exhibit at Rogers & Rogers Gallery) of a little girl
fishing with her grandfather...showing the love and friendship between grandparents and
their grandchildren. The painting I'm working on now depicts the friendship between a
child and their pet. I hope to complete this painting this week.

Goddess In Flight...by Phyllis Gooche
This painting may be purchased at the Rogers & Rogers Art Gallery. It is currently on exhibit there.
This is an abstract I recently finished. It's a little different than my normal style of painting, but I think it's good to challenge yourself and try different things. I was inspired by my husband's more
abstract style in his "sheet" paintings and began to imagine....."what if" there were a person beneath that sheet. After a few sketches, the "Goddess in Flight" appeared and I began creating her on
canvas. Below, is the result.

Inspiration on the Beach
A trip to the beach inspired several paintings. I observed children playing on the beach and one hyper little girl caught my eye. She darted to and fro with her pail of water and I was hard pressed to get a snapshot of her. Luckily for me, she stopped long enough for me to get this shot. It was fun
painting her later in my studio. A grandmother in Gulf Shores saw my painting of her and wanted a
portrait of her granddaughter on the beach. The second painting posted here is a commissioned
painting I did of her grandaughter.

'Portrait of James'....by Phyllis Gooche
"Portrait of James" was inspired by a photograph I made at Sweetwater Mansionduring a Civil War re-enactment of one of the actors. James was resting on a
bale of hay between two gigantic magnolia trees on the Sweetwater grounds when
I snapped his photo. I was going to give him this painting, but when it was completed
he had left for Hollywood. I understand he is now an actor in movies. Maybe
someday he will be famous and it will increase the value of this painting!
Richard's Sheet Painting
One of Richard's paintings sold on opening night of the Rogers & Rogers Art Gallery. The buyer
wanted an explanation of how Richard was inspired to do this painting. The story he told still
makes me chuckle.
